On the evening of September 10, the long-awaited release of Satisfactory took place on Steam. This exciting project in the automation genre has been in development for over five years by Coffee Stain Studios, since its early access launch in the Epic Games Store. In this article, we will explore the key features and updates that the 1.0 release and update have brought to the game.
Final
Satisfactory can finally be completed from start to finish (including the end credits). To achieve this, you need to finish Stage 5 of the main storyline and successfully build what is required. It’s important to note that after finishing the storyline and the relatively short credits, you can continue playing without any issues. If you'd like, you can watch the game's finale in the video below.
New Technologies
The recently added final tier, the 9th tier of technologies, consists of five categories. Unlocking all of these will provide you with several new items: seven buildings, one resource sonar filter, and a total of 19 crafting reagents, both regular and advanced. Regrettably, the developers have not yet included any means of shielding against radiation from nuclear power plants and their waste. Moreover, Tier 9 also indirectly grants access to a new resource known as "Strange Alien Matter," abbreviated as SAM. This resource resembles purple ore, can be extracted using standard drills, and is transported using conveyor belts.
New Research
The Molecular Analysis Machine (MAM) now features a new research branch called "Alien Technology." This branch offers 19 nodes, unlocking various new items: 3 new buildings, upgrades for certain structures, 2 scanner filters, and a unique technology that can be applied to existing facilities.
To access this research, you'll need a mix of standard reagents as well as some new resources:
- SAM Ore
- Refined SAM Ore
- Refined SAM Ore Fluctuator
- Mercer Sphere
- Somersloop.
The last two items are unique collectibles found in the open world and must be gathered manually. For example, the Mercer Sphere is an object that, when you get close, emits strange voices encouraging you to undertake bizarre and nonsensical actions. Moreover, as you unlock each node in this research branch, these voices will interact with you alongside the AI, ADA, occasionally offering peculiar and amusing phrases such as, “Fill the rivers with blood and let the effigies defile our temples; the song will follow.”
New Amplifier
The "Alien Technology" research tree introduces a new feature that allows players to incorporate a special reagent known as Somersloop into specific production facilities. Depending on the type of facility and the quantity of reagents added, the total output can increase by factors of 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, or even 2 times. However, this boost comes with a significant increase in energy consumption, which can rise dramatically from 1,343 to 3,000 units, for instance.
New Structures
Portals
A new mode of transportation for characters has been introduced. Unfortunately, the portals function on a one-to-one basis, meaning there can only be one entrance and one exit. In other words, you cannot create a single entrance that connects to multiple exits simultaneously.
To operate the portals, you’ll need electricity and a new type of fuel. The entrance consumes all the power, while the exit merely needs to be linked to the energy line.
Activating a portal requires a substantial amount of energy for charging, specifically 1,000 units. After it has been charged, the portal will only use 200 units of energy, but only while fuel is available. If the fuel runs out and the portal ceases to function, it will need to be recharged.
You can change the exit point if you wish, but this will also necessitate recharging the portal again.
Dimensional Depot
The Dimensional Depot is a specialized storage facility that allows you to place resources, reagents, tools, and character gear into a shared cloud (referred to as items). To utilize this feature, you'll need to connect a conveyor belt that delivers items to the depot. While the facility has a single receiver, you can build multiple depots to enhance efficiency since the cloud is common to all.
Items stored in the cloud can be easily transferred to your character's inventory at any time or directly used for constructing buildings.
A wide variety of items can be deposited into the cloud, but each type has a maximum limit. For instance, you can store up to 100 units of SAM fluctuators. The “Alien technology” research tree includes five nodes that, when unlocked, can increase this limit by a total of 500%.
Initially, items are loaded into the cloud at a rate of 15 units per minute. With advancements from the research tree, this rate can be increased to 240 units per minute. Furthermore, you can unlock the ability to load items directly from your inventory.
MK6 Conveyors
The MK6 conveyors come in both horizontal and vertical designs, capable of moving resources and reagents at an impressive rate of 1,200 units per minute.
Unlike earlier versions, these conveyor belts are constructed from energy, which causes them to emit a bright white light. This feature makes them easily visible during nighttime and in dimly lit caves.
Alien Power Augment
This energy generator extracts power from the subspace of the somersloop reagent, delivering 500 energy units. When linked to a shared network, it enhances overall efficiency by 10%, though this effect does not accumulate with multiple generators on the same network.
You can load the generator with a special fuel known as "Alien Power Matrix," which has a consumption rate of 5 units per minute. When fueled, the generator activates a special mode, enabling additional arms and boosting the performance bonus from 10% to 30%.
Converter
The Converter is capable of producing a new reagent (liquid) from nothing. It enables the transformation of processed SAM ore into a new liquid reagent. Moreover, it allows for the conversion of processed SAM ore alongside an existing reagent into another specified reagent. For instance, you can combine SAM with iron ore to generate coal, or mix SAM with coal to create quartz.
The Quantum Encoder
The Quantum Encoder allows players to generate new reagents and more effective fuel for nuclear power plants. No matter what you intend to create, you'll always need the previously mentioned liquid derived from SAM ore.
MK2 and MK3 Blueprint Designers
The MK2 and MK3 versions feature an expanded area for placing structures compared to the original M1 version. The MK2 model provides a space of 40 x 40 x 40, while the MK3 model offers an even larger area of 48 x 48 x 48. To illustrate this difference clearly, the final image in the album below displays the MK1 version on the left and the MK3 version on the right.
