New Valheim update is out

After five and a half years in Early Access, Valheim has hit version 1.0. The update went live today, September 9, and it finally opens the Deep North, the last biome Iron Gate had left blank at the top of the map.

Servers on XLGAMES.GG are already running the new build. Log into your control panel, hit update, and your world is ready for the north.

What's new:

The Deep North

* The final biome is now fully playable, with its own creatures, locations, events and music

* Over 40 new weapons, 4 armor sets, plus new capes, trinkets, tools and ammunition

* Dozens of new crafting materials and recipes

* Snow now piles up on the ground and has to be cleared before you can build

* Frozen lakes and ponds can crack under you, so watch your step

Gameplay and systems:

* New traversal options, including a grappling hook

* New building pieces

* More ways to upgrade your gear

* Upgradeable inventory pockets

* Alternative versions of some existing biomes

* Achievements are in the game for the first time, with over 50 of them

Under the hood:

* Unity engine upgrade

* Faster world saving and fewer microstutters when new zones load in and out

* General performance work across the board

Platforms:

* PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and now PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2

* Full crossplay between all platforms

Before you update your server:

* Take a world backup first. It takes a minute and it is the only thing that saves you if something goes wrong.

* Old worlds keep working, but the Deep North only generates properly in areas nobody has explored yet. If your crew has already sailed into the far north, a fresh seed is the cleaner option.

* If you run BepInEx mods, expect breakage until authors push 1.0 builds. Test on a copy before you move your community over.

* Iron Gate recommends a new playthrough for the full 1.0 experience, though it is not required.
